This targeted, skill-building session is designed for city, county, and tribal staff, as well as community and environmental justice advocates, NGO/CBO representatives, and others eager to lead clean energy projects. Join our training to learn how to identify and scope viable solar and battery storage/microgrid systems, and structure financing that maximizes project success.

In this 90-minute training, you will learn how to:
Readily identify viable solar energy and battery/microgrid sites in your community
Understand what “behind-the-meter” means and why it is critical to financial success of many smaller local projects
Be able to create a solar/battery storage project at an otherwise “no go” site
Understand the critical relationship between a site’s electric load and its available solar buildout capacity
Be able to stage the buildout of solar and battery/microgrid in phases to maximize project success
Understand the potential role of bond finance and pooled financing vehicles for multiple project funding
Use social solidarity enterprise business entities (cooperatives) to scale your solutions
Effectively involve the local community and environmental justice groups early in the process
The basics of modeling these projects using private sector and NREL Modeling Tools

This training is led by the Center for Strategic Policy Innovation that delivered a groundbreaking Pilot Project in Lansing, Michigan in partnership with Arizona State University’s Laboratory for Energy And Power Solutions (LEAPS) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). It also builds on the nationally recognized NREL Clean Energy Modeling Tools training initiative, with dozens of program graduates.
